Ch, Ch, Ch Changes......

This week I am on week 11 of my half marathon training with 40 something days to go!  I have been slacking a bit so this week is sort of a re-dedication week....BUT, this week is full of changes!
1. I go back to work 8:30- 12:30
2. My kids go back to school
3. My son is starting middle school and will need to get up earlier to get the bus

What does all this mean for my training?  It means I will have to make some changes.  I can't run at 5:00 in the morning because while I might be up, the sun is not.
Here is what my week looks like:
Monday:  strength and stretch...check!
Tuesday:  5 mile run
Wednesday:  3 mile run or cross
Thursday:  5 mile run + strength training
Friday:  Rest
Saturday:  50 minute cross training (hoping for a nice bike ride on some trails)
Sunday:  8 mile run (can't wait!!!)
I am expecting Tuesday and Wednesday to be the hardest days to get my runs in....I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Week 10....I think.....

This week I think I am on week 10 of my half marathon training and there are 45 days to go til the big day!  Think I should send in my registration? The form still sits on my fridge just waiting for me to fill it out and send it in.  There is no backing out once the form is sent.  I am starting to get nervous about keeping up with my training because my schedule is going to change next week when I go back to work and my kids go back to school.  No more early morning runs for me.  My runs will have to be done after I get home from work but before the kids get home from school.  At least my long runs on Sundays will not be affected.
Here is what my week looks like this week:
Monday: stretch and strengthen...blew that off :(
Tuesday:  5 mile run ....blew that off too :(
Wednesday:  3 mile run or crosstrain....well, I at least did 2 miles on the treadmill :)
Thursday:  4.5 miles+ strengthen.....great 4.5 mile run
Friday:  rest
Saturday:  5K race!!!
Sunday:  Hmmm.....would love to do a long run but we will see :)
Well, that is it for me for now....see ya!

I'm Still Here!!

After a week off from running (schedule conficts and personal stuff) I am back and feeling great!  Today I ran 8 Miles!!  I have a feeling like I am going to pay for it later, but we shall see.  I also broke the 100 miles mark....I have run over 100 miles since I have starting training for a half marathon.  That is a lot of miles!!
So, now I am off to enjoy the rest of my weekend....kid free (off for the weekend with grandparents) with a book...Born to Run by Christopher MacDougall.....some relaxing time with my husband, and a long soak in the hot tub tonight for my sore muscles!
Have a good weekend everyone!!!

Week 8

This week I am on week 8 of my half marathon training.  My week looks like this:
Monday: strength training
Tuesday: 4.5miles
Wednesday:  3 miles or cross
Thursday: 4.5 miles
Friday: rest
Saturday:  crosstrain
Sunday: 7 miles
So far the week is going well...today (Wednesday) I chose cross training instead of a run and rode my bike for about an hour with my son.   This way we both got great exercise!!!
I am looking forward to my 7 mile run on Sunday.  I am hoping for low humidity.

A Runner's Paradise

Most women, when faced with a weekend away close by some outlet shopping, get excited about stores like Coach, Banana Republic or maybe even J. Crew...well not me!!  I was extremely excited by the prospect of going to the Nike Factory Store.  I had recieved gift cards from my awesome sister for my birthday and I was looking forward to getting some new clothes for running.  I have lost 30 pounds so a lot of my running clothes are too big for me.
So I walked into the store and right away starting finding many things that I really liked.  I had a huge armful of shirts, tank tops, jog bras, shorts, pants and anything else that caught my eye.  Most things I grabbed two of just in case because I was not sure of what size I would need.  Yes, I hogged one of the few dressing rooms trying on all my finds.  I wanted to take everything I tried on, but in the end had to make some tough decisions about what I really needed.  I ended up with a blue dry fit shirt (amazingly soft), black and white tempo running shorts (did not seem too short, but you might want to try them on to see if they are too short for your taste), a tangerine colored running tank, and a long sleeved half zip black running top (seemed like it might be good for layering as the fall weather starts approaching).
So if you ever have the chance to go to a Nike Factory Store I highly recommend it.  I am planning on visiting a Nike Town store in the near future and I am willing to bet that after that trip I will be saying to go there too!!
