Milestones

This past week I reached a milestone in my running...I reached 500 miles run with my Nike + sportband!  If you are a runner and are reading this and you don't have a sportband, I highly recommend you get one!  I bought mine at least a couple of years ago and have used it on just about every run I have ever done...hence the 500 miles!!

Big Friday Night Plans!!!

Today is Friday....FINALLY!!!
My plans for tonight include finishing my latest issue of Runners World Magazine and posting a new entry here so stay tuned......

Yup, This Quote Sums it Up

Everyday I receive my "daily kick in the butt" from Runners World Magazine through my email.  I read them everyday and sometimes I like the quotes and other times they don't do much for me.  This is the quote I got today and this one I thought was a really good one!  It sort of sums up why I put myself through this torture......I am sure many of you feel the same way!

In the midst of regular life, running is the touchstone that breathes adventure into my soul. I can feel the trail under my feet, the press of the hill, the gallop of the track, the burn of my lungs, the stir of wonder and possibility. Running reminds me that there is more to me than what is readily apparent much of the time. I don't always need to see it, but oh how I need to know it's there. Like having an alter ego, or a super-cool super-hero identity.

Doggies Go Home!!!!!

Today while out on my run I was approached by a couple of very small but vicious dogs.  I was listening to music through my ipod so at first when the dogs were growling and barking at me I was wondering what in the world was wrong with my ipod.  It wasn't until I felt something rub up against my leg ever so slightly did I realize what was happening.  I do have to say that in all my years of running, I have not really had too many run in with dogs...just lucky I guess.  So because 0f this I had no idea what to do!!  So I kept running...and so did the dogs!!  They were yipping and yapping at my feet the whole way!  Finally I shouted out "GO HOME DOGGIES!!" , and to my surprise they turned around to head for home!!  I have a way with dogs...ha, ha, ha!
Anyone else have experiences with dogs while out on a run?  What did you do?
On a side note, it was a very cold but fast run today!!

Getting Ready for Winter

When I started running back in 2005, it was only on a treadmill inside since it was winter, and I was new to running.  Once the weather turned warmer, I took my runs outside and was totally hooked on running outside.  It was almost impossible for me to go back to running inside if there was a rainy day.  I continued this pattern every year, running on the treadmill in the winter and back outside in the spring and summer.  But not this year!  This year my plan is to continue some of my runs outside.  So, in preparation for this I had to do a little shopping and invest in some good gear.  I usually just pick up most of my running clothes at Target, but for cold weather running I had to turn to the good stuff.
I got a Nike Combat thermal shirt.....in pink of course.  This shirt is a compression shirt, like under armour shirts but the inside of it is soft and fuzzy.
Then I got Nike Combat Thermal Running Pants.....the material is the same as the shirt.
For my feet I got some lightweight North Face hiking socks.  They are made from Merino wool and are a good wicking material.  Could not find them in the color I bought.
So, today was my first run in all of this new gear, and guess what! I stayed warm and comfortable and was feeling great!  Yes, all this cost a good bit of money, but I would say it was definitely worth it!!

Change of Plan

Payson Center
I know I said my next post was going to be about my recent shopping, but something else seems more important right now....
One of my favorite parts of being a runner and running in races is the great feeling I get when I am able to run a race for a great cause.  Back in May I ran my favorite race....Rock n Race in Concord, NH.  This race is organized every year to benefit the Payson Cancer Center at Concord Hospital.  I have done this race a few times and have always gone with a team of runners that I have put together.  This year my team "Moms with Mom-entum" raised enough money to have a tribute brick inscribed with whatever we wanted in a courtyard at the cancer center.  Yesterday I had the opportunity to go and see the brick and took some pictures of it.
My team's brick

The brick is in honor of my grandmother, my aunt, and anyone else from my team who has lost loved ones to cancer....and it is also honoring those who we know are battling cancer or have fought the battle and won.
O.k. so maybe next time I will actually write about my shopping......

I am still here!

It has been a while since my last post and even this one will need to be quick.  That is just the way my life has been lately, running here and running there almost all the time....well not literally running unfortunately.  I have been finding it difficult to fit the runs in and I only work part time!
I did however recently find some time to fit in some some shopping that I would like to tell you about.....
A little teaser :)
